Furniture For Families

Since 2022, ACL has been providing furniture and household items for people exiting homelessness or threatened by homelessness. We work with Partner Organizations that arrange housing opportunities for their clients. We serve people who have been living unhoused (including families), women fleeing domestic violence (usually with children), handicapped individuals, and others who have experienced some type of traumatic event.

Monetary donations allow us to buy new mattresses and bedding and other items when needs exceed the donated supply.

What ACL is doing

Our volunteers (half of whom have trucks) pick up donations of furniture, bedding, kitchen wares and bath supplies from across the Austin area and deliver it to folks in need, 50 week a year. There is no charge for these services. We are the only group in Austin consistently doing this for people leaving the streets. We have served more 325 individuals and families – and counting – in the three-plus years of operation.

We can do more with more people power! If you can volunteer some time Click Here. We especially love volunteers who have trucks!

The Impact

The impact of having furniture and new bedding is potentially life-changing, especially for someone who has not slept on a good bed for years—as is the case with a number of folks who we serve.

From one of our recipients: “Thank you all so much for everything! I am so grateful, especially for the bed. I got a good night’s sleep for the first time since I moved into my apartment. Thank you all very much for your kindness!”

From another: “Thank you so much again for everything. Keep doing what you are doing!”

The people we serve have a greater sense of “home” when their living space has the appropriate furniture and household items. This potentially keeps them under a roof, thereby making Austin a healthier and more equitable city and community.

Do You Have Time to Donate? Volunteer!

We’re doing good, help us do better!  Make in impact by giving a hand up to someone in need. We are providing furniture and home furnishings to those with basic needs.  ACL can use all kinds of help for the positions below. Click on the contact link in the section below where you feel you can help. If you can help in other ways, Contact Pastor Tim Anderson

Care Packagers

We get random donations of bedding, kitchen utensils, place settings and more.  It makes for an organizational challenge.  If you, your family or a group of friends want to turn chaos into care packages, we could use you!  Contact us with your desired days you can commit (Tuesdays or Wednesdays have openings)

Movers and Shakers

Got one morning a week to give?  We pick up unwanted furniture and household items and deliver them to folks in need Wednesdays or Thursdays. Get in a rotation yourself or with your crew of volunteers and make someone’s day.

Treasure Hunters (and Scavengers)

We need furniture, bedding,  kitchenware, and towels.  We need folks who can help score or aggregate at least a truck load of donations to pick up on a Wednesday or Thursday morning. It’s great if your church or office can help manage a donation station coordinated with ACL. We try to help assisted living facilities when tenants want to donate furniture. Click Tip Line if you have an active lead on furniture.

Inventory Managers

Like to play matching games on your smartphone, but feel it’s a waste of time? Think again!  Spend an hour or so each week to help us keep track of inventory?  Earn bonus points by helping us rotate stock efficiently!  You can also level-up and help coordinate donations that fill in missing game pieces.  No heavy lifting required, but active rummaging is encouraged! A great job if you actually have a calling for categorization and organization.

Space Men & Women

Our storage space is limited and it would be great to have more – for free.  If you are someone who might provide storage space or know someone who would, help make it happen. South and east Austin are desirable locations.
